Current collection - Goossens Paris palladium torque necklace with smokey rock crystals. Designer Biography: Robert Goossens holds a special place in the prestigious tradition of 20th century jewellery design and its contribution to France’s chic reputation. When he met Gabrielle Chanel in the early 1950s, she saw in him an artist who could interpret the jewels of her dreams. She saw a man who could merge savoir-faire and imagination, color and volume, innovation and classicism. By the miracle of aesthetic affinity and complementary artistic sensibility, the complicit, creative dialogue between Mademoiselle Chanel and Robert Goossens inspired jewellery collections whose strength, personality, and freedom of expression have become synonymous with the Goossens style. Maison Goossens’ talent is not limited to the Rue Cambon ateliers. Many other designers and perfume makers have worked with the jewellery house, including Cristobal Balenciaga, Madame Grès, Yves Saint Laurent (who started a 30-year jewellery collaboration with the house in 1976), Dior, Scherrer, Givenchy, Mugler, Lacroix, and many more. In parallel, Robert Goossens made many decorative objects based on his favorite themes: rock crystal, gold-plated bronze, coral, and wheat sheaves, among others. In 1974, he opened his own boutique on Avenue George V, where he could give free rein to his creativity. In the late 1970s, Robert Goossens shared his secrets with his son Patrick, who was 20 years old at the time. This iconoclastic pioneer taught his son that “nothing is impossible,” giving him a taste for new places and the desire to ceaselessly enhance his designs. In 2005, to help perpetuate the Goossens story, Robert Goossens sold his atelier, his archives and his unique savoir-faire to Chanel, which grouped together several talented houses emblematic of French craftsmanship under the PARAFFECTION group. His son Patrick became head of the jewellery workshop, and his daughter Martine became founding developer of the decorative objects branch, which receives commissions from architects and designers from around the world.
