South Sea Pearl Necklace
About the Item
South Sea pearls are among the largest and most coveted pearls in the world, and the twenty-nine examples in this classic strand necklace can be counted among the finest of their kind. The perfectly matched, graduated gems measure 15mm to 13mm, and each exhibits an exceptional luster.
South Sea pearls have long been revered for their soft iridescence, radiant luster and incredible size. They are made by the Pinctada maxima, or gold-lipped oyster, which is the largest mollusk in the world and the only species capable of consistently producing pearls of this extraordinary size. The oysters are only found in small numbers in the warm waters of the South Pacific, making these pearls extremely precious.
The pearl are secured by an 18K white gold ball clasp.
