Recently Karl Lagerfeld took Chanel's Metiers d'Art's team to Dallas for the Paris-Dallas RTW show. Viewers were treated to a luxurious yet campy mash up of Franglo-American styles which only Lagerfeld could have orchestrated. He is essentially one of the few designers in the game who can literally sell ice back to the Eskimos. Approximately 25 years earlier, Victoire de Castellane's Chanel team under Lagerfeld's direction created this American Indian inspired necklace, conceived and made in France by the illustrious jewelry house, Maison Gripoix. American Indian inspired motifs are created in gilt bronze with hand poured pate de verre inserts of amythest, turquoise, emerald and citrine. This is an extraordinary example of the workmanship of Gripoix before Chanel (the company) transitioned away from handmade jewelry Chanel (the designer) championed, towards the mass production of today. Necklace 36", plus pendant 4" , pendant width 2.75", 10 mm faux pearls. Excellent condition. 1980's France.
