Jill Garber 19th Century Sistine Madonna Angels Portrait Necklace with Amethyst

About the Item

Jill Garber's blossoming collection of one of a kind modern "legacy" jewels flawlessly merge centuries of remarkable design with her unmistakeable sense of romantic style. This Rococo-style drop necklace features a pristine nineteenth century miniature porcelain, depicting the angels from "Sistine Madonna" painted by Raphael Sanzio and commissioned in 1512 by Pope Julius II. Measuring 3.25" x 2.63", this museum-quality, porcelain enamel depiction is meticulously mounted within an engraved frame edged in delicate silver beadwork. Elaborate chaining has been uniquely constructed using a combination of links that include antique nineteenth century Austro-Hungarian sterling silver with gold vermeil. Each of these contain an original old cut faceted Amethyst. Additional links are hand crafted with 6 mm freshwater pearls interspersed between 8 x 10 mm oval Amethyst cabochons. The remarkable Amethyst clasp belongs to the Austro Hungarian suite which date to the mid 1800's. Beneath the porcelain, rests a large, matching Austro-Hungarian chandelier drop, with a 17 mm round old cut Amethyst at its center. A delicate freshwater pearl button completes this divine drop. Austria-Hungary - often referred to as the Austro-Hungarian Empire or the Dual Monarchy in English language sources, was a constitutional union of the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary that existed from 1867 to 1918. Amethyst has been one of the world's most revered stones for many centuries. Found in Brazil, Bolivia, Mexico, Africa, Canada, Russia, the USA and Europe, this stone has a rich history that many civilizations have placed in high value. Many believe that the Amethyst crystal was synonymous with luxury. Christian Bishops once wore Amethyst rings because its purple color was meant to symbolize royalty and an allegiance to Christ. • Antique nineteenth century porcelain depicting angels from Raphael's Sistine Madonna measuring 3.50" x 2.75" • Four - 8 x 10 mm Amethyst cabochons • Six 10 x 12 mm old cut oval faceted Amethyst • Nine 6 mm Freshwater pearl buttons • Approximately 17 mm old cut faceted round Amethyst drop • Original antique nineteenth century Austro Hungarian links and clasp • Overall length 20" • Handcrafted in sterling silver with signature studio patina • One of a kind Jill Garber bracelet • Hallmarked JG • Size adjustments to fit your wrist are provided as our courtesy Jill Garber’s Collection jewelry begins with antiquities uniquely designed into timeless works of art.
