Antique Garnet 14K Gold Cannetille Pendant
About the Item
This is an antique drop-shaped garnet pendant created in a 14 karat yellow gold frame. The garnet is surrounded with a double ribbed border and the outer edge has a cannetille design with small knots, the so-called 'spiders'. Cannetille typically features fine gold wires or thinly hammered sheets. Jewelry with cannetille was very popular in the 1900's, particularly in the 1820's and 1830's. Motifs included tendrils, scrolls, coils, beehives and spider-like rosette ornaments. The faceted garnet stone in this pendant showcases a beautiful deep red color and is provided with a golden bail.
The pendant is in good condition with normal surface wear from previous use. A small perforation is visible at the back - however this does not detract the beauty of the pendant.
