About the Item

The snake has been a powerful image since the Victorian era and continues to be popular even in modern jewelry. It has been an inspiration for jewelry design for ages, often used to symbolize eternity, everlasting love, life and protection. A gorgeous and unusual diamond snake locket from the Late Victorian (ca1900) era! This fantastic piece is crafted in rich 14kt yellow gold and is diamond-shaped with rounded corners. The double sided locket displays the matching image of a raised and slithering snake, whose body appears to weave through three "holes" in the surface. A sparkling old Mine Cut diamond is bezel-set on one side, near the serpent's head, and weighs approximately 0.20ct, catching the light beautifully with every turn. The die struck body of the snake is accented by subtle detail to depict scales, and together with two beaded eyes, they add a wonderful textural appeal next to the smooth matte surface. The locket opens on the side to reveal two spaces inside to store special photographs or mementos, if desired. A simple round bail stamped with a "14K" gold purity mark rests at the top, perfect for adding to a favorite chain. This stylish late Victorian locket would be wonderful for any snake lover and would make a fabulous addition to any collection! The locket hangs approximately 1 1/2" long (including the bail at the top), measures about 1 1/8" tall and wide, and is about 1/4" thick. The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting, however there is a slight circular indentation around the diamond setting, which is hardly noticeable when worn. The diamond is intact and securely set. The bail and locket mechanism are secure and in good working condition.
