Antique 1850's Black Jet Briolette 14K Gold Pendants
About the Item
These antique 1850's faceted black jet pendants are created in 14 karat yellow gold. The black stone, also known as black yet, is beautifully faceted into this briolette shaped pendants. The gold on top has nicely jagged edges, while the bottom is set with a gold rosette and groove globule.
In some regions in The Netherlands in 19th century - when woman were in mourning - these pendants were worn as headdress accessories and were hooked into a loop in the bottom of the hat and hung along the cheeks in the front strip of the corned hat. These types of jewelry were worn by more distinguished women and belong to the regional costume.
The pendants are in fair antique condition with normal surface wear from previous use. The stones have several chips the gold have some minor signs of wear. Despite the minor losses, the pendants are still wearable and do not detract from the beauty of the jewelry. Marked and tested as 14 karat gold.
