About the Item

An authentic ancient Greek silver "tetradrachm" from Mysia in Pergamon (now near the city of Bergama in central far-western Turkey) depicts 2 intertwined serpents in the cista mystica. The cista mystica was a woven basket that contained the sacred objects pertaining to the the worship of Bacchis (Dionysos), which was common throughout Asia Minor. It was the custom of young girls of high rank to bear this this mystic chest at public festivals. This fascinating coin minted 89/90 BC is set in an ancient-inspired "large/small jawan" Steven Battelle designed setting with a 2.0 mm VS1 diamond accent at the bottom. This pendant comes with a lifetime laminated coin certificate of authenticity. The 18K handmade hammered chain shown is not included, but can be ordered additionally. It comes in 18”, 20”, and 24” lengths. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant. "Mystical" and historically fascinating!
