Dating back to the 1870s, this fabulous Victorian locket necklace, is artfully ornamented in consummate Etruscan Revival style. The locket suspends from a very fine 20 inch chain made up of gold ribbed circle links. A rare find to have both the locket and chain intact. This Victorian-era Etruscan Revival locket, circa 1870’s-1880’s, opens to reveal the daguerreotype of a young man. Across from it is a blank frame where an additional photo can still be added. The daguerreotype is hand-colored—the man has rosy cheeks and there is a slight blue tinge to the background. The front of the locket features ornate twisted-wire motifs and granulation, typical to the Etruscan Revival period, and there are seed pearls on the front emblem. The original bail can clip onto a larger chain, or a smaller chain can be slid through, so the locket can be styled in multiple ways. Etruscan Revival jewelry has a rich and interesting history. In the early 1800’s there was a large excavation of Etruscan tombs outside of Rome. Within these tombs were pieces of original Etruscan jewelry. The Etruscans were master artisans, they created breathtaking pieces of jewelry through their use of gold wirework and granulation, colored gemstones and glass. The news of the excavation of these tombs, and the treasures contained inside them, spread throughout Europe. Etruscan style jewelry...

Antique pendant in the style of Etruscan Revival by Ernesto Pierret. This piece displays fine bead work as only a master could achieve. Ernesto Pierret, A Frenchman working in Italy, was a contemporary of Castellani and one of the finest jewelry artists of Rome at this time. He, therefore, was a leading 19th century jeweler specializing in fine archeological and Etruscan Revival jewelry - which was inspired by the discovery of the 700-300 BC tombs of the Etruscan people. Ernesto Pierret jewelry can today be seen in museum collections. This large etruscan revival pendant is a fine example of such pieces and we have not encountered another to rival this example of fine gold work. The center stone is a hand carved carnelian scarab. This piece measures 2.1 inches long and 1.5 inches at its width. It is 18K and in very fine condition. Signed on the verso, this archaeological style pendant is shown on a 19th century gold chain...

An exceptional, fine and impressive 14 karat yellow gold locket with a 17 karat yellow gold chain; part of our diverse antique jewellery and estate jewelry collections. This exceptional, fine and impressive antique locket has been crafted in 14k yellow gold. The exceptional yellow gold locket has an oval form, embellished with impressive embossed and chased Burmese style decoration to the domed anterior and posterior covers. The ornamentation to the anterior surface depicts the figure of Krishna* playing the flute, positioned next to a calf, and surrounded by intricate floral motifs. The posterior face of the locket bears the figure of Saraswati** playing a Saraswati veena, with a swan in the foreground of the image and floral motifs encircling the figure. The yellow gold border of the locket is plain and unembellished. This hinged locket opens to reveal two windows, allowing for a personal memento to be stored within. The pendant suspends from a 1920s 17k yellow gold 26" belcher chain via a ring loop to the upper border of the frame. The chain secures with a conventional spring-loaded bolt ring fastening. The exceptional antique locket is hallmarked to the lower border of each cover with the 14k gold fineness mark 585, the importer's mark (RES) and the London import mark date letter for 1979 (E). This large antique gold locket has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 14k and 17k gold...
