About the Item
This is a Museum Quality Antique Victorian - Belle Epoque Locket Pendant with exquisite Enamel Portrait decoration, set with a Rose Cut Diamond and the word "Memoria." The locket is 14 Karat Gold and dates to circa 1840-1880. Enamel Portrait lockets from the Victorian - Belle Epoque period are extremely difficult to find and are highly coveted. This locket is an exquisite early example and is further adorned with a Rose Cut Diamond below the portrait. The portrait is beautifully hand painted in enamel and depicts a woman with a flower garland set on her long flowing hair. The word "Memoria" crowns the portrait in black and white enamel and the beautiful enamel work continues with the scrolled framing of the portrait around the lower portion of the locket. The reverse of the locket has an engine turned pattern design. The locket opens to reveal the two photo compartments. The inserts holding the photos in place are present on each side along with two photos which can be easily removed. The bale has lovely gold detailing. This is an opportunity to acquire a rare early memorial enamel gold portrait locket with diamond adornment.
With the bale, the locket is 2 inches (50mm) tall. Without the bales the locket is 1 1/2 inches (40mm) tall. The locket is 1 1/4 inches (30mm) wide.
The locket opens and closes securely.
The listing is only for the locket. The chain is only shown for display.
The early locket has mild surface wear and a few tiny dings along the side of the locket consistent with the age of the jewel.
