Edwardian Opal and Diamond 18 Karat Gold Articulated Pendant Necklace circa 1910

About the Item

A beautiful original Edwardian opal and diamond pendant created in the garland style, circa 1910. During this period jewelry became far more delicate in design as techniques improved for diamond cutting and setting. These old European cut diamonds are collet and millegrain set with an estimated diamond weight of 1.10cts. Opals were discovered in the 1890’s with these two fine examples measuring approx. 1.50cts and 1.10cts respectively. Stylistically this lovely pendant has been designed with articulated laurel motif sections, denoting ‘triumph’ in the lore of floral symbolism. The pendant is attached to a fine barleycorn 18k chain 17” long. DETAILS - 18 karat gold diamond set pendant set with 42 old European cut diamonds, estimated at 1.10cts. The lower half of the pendant is articulated giving the piece attractive movement. Two opals, both collet set in yellow gold are 1.5cts and 1.10cts respectively. The opals show no cracks or chips and still maintain all their fire. The diamonds are all present, bright and securely set. The chain is also in immaculate order and well suited to the pendant. The articulated section remains in excellent order.
