About the Item
In partnership with The Turquoise Mountain Myanmar Jewellery Project, Ico & the Bird has created a series of good luck charms and pendants based on ancient Burmese Zodiac.
Conceived by the Monks of Ancient Burma and called the ‘Mahabote’ (Little Keys),these figures decorate the famous Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon and are said to hold the keys to one's fortunes.
The peacock, the national bird of Myanmar, is symbolic of the Sun and represents happiness and unity. It is believed that the round tail of the peacock symbolizes heaven and the markings or 'eyes' on the tail are the starts. Crafted in collaboration with the Turquoise Mountain Myanmar Jewellery Project, the Peacock medallion is hand-made in Myanmar and accentuated with a bezel set .17ct diamond at the top.The Peacock, embraced by kings and freedom fighters, is the national bird of Myanmar and a symbol of pride and resistance.

In collaboration with Turquoise Mountain Myanmar, the Peacock pendant, is hand made in Myanmar by the artisans trained in ancient goldsmithing techniques. Using Burmese gold, known worldwide for its rich color, each piece is ethically produced and helps promote sustainable livelihoods for the artists from Ramree Island, in the Rakhine State of Myanmar.

Ico & the Bird Fine Jewelry
Ico & the Bird Fine Jewelry was founded by designer Juliana Domenico (’Ico’) Carr and inspired by her world travels, searching for the most beautiful and unique gemstones to incorporate into her designs. Gemstones have always been a passion for the designer. She spent the first five years of her life in Brazil, a country known for some of the worlds’ most striking and rare stones, and her earliest memories were of playing with giant, loose aquamarines in her mother’s jewelry box and arranging them into designs. Working primarily in 22k matte gold and hand-picked gemstones, Juliana works with master craftsmen from around the world employing ancient gold smithing techniques in the creation of singular pieces that will be treasured for generations. Juliana holds an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts from The George Washington University. She also holds a Graduate Gemology (GG) degree from The Gemological Institute of America and Graduate Fine Arts from UCLA.
