Vitreous enamel: turquoise with ornamental paillons in the shape of a six-rayed star under a layer of transparent colourless enamel (fondant). In this art of enamelling tiny motifs or paillettes are cut from gold or and covered with fondant (translucent enamel).

About vitreuos enamel:
The inimitably luminous colours are literally created "in the fire": layer by layer, enamel is carefully fired in at 800 degrees Celsius. During guilloching, the finest wave patterns are engraved into the gold, creating a unique depth effect. Vitreous means made of glass: the ancient technique is almost forgotten today and Victor Mayer is perhaps the last manufactory to master it at the highest level.
