Topaz, Diamond and Tsavorite Necklace in Platinum Estate
The reddish-pink and golden-orange varieties of topaz are known as imperial or precious topaz and they are rare. This hand-fabricated pendant is a one-of-a-kind original creation and features a magnificent internally flawless pear-shaped beautifully faceted precious topaz measuring approximately 23.64 mm x 14.59 and weighing approximately 15 carats. Perched atop the platinum basket that holds the topaz is an 18K yellow gold collet-set brilliant diamond .05 ct diamond. A vivid, eye-clean green Tsavorite garnet measuring approximately 7 mm x 5 mm and weighing around .69 carats is collet-set in platinum and hangs suspended west to east above the topaz drop. The 2 mm-thick platinum chain is station-set with an additional four diamonds—two on either side—both once again collet-set in 18k yellow gold. The diamonds total under half-a-carat and are F in color and VS in clarity. The necklace is 18" long and the topaz hangs down a further 1.29". The complimentary colors of green and reddish-orange are spectacular here. I also love the choice of creating the piece in platinum but setting the white diamonds in yellow gold. Every little detail on this necklace is just right. The lobster claw clasp—which is not standard-issue but one fabricated specifically for this custom pendant—is arranged opposite to similar clasps in America, so the lobster claw is on the left here instead of the right. Also on the clasp is a metal fineness mark "PT 950." I see no other marks. Precious and Imperial topaz look especially beautiful by incandescent light. So wear this necklace to a candle-lit dinner, as you sit beside a fireplace or just around the house. The length is terrific because you can bend over and pick something up off the floor without getting smacked in your face with your necklace. Topaz isn't a dazzlingly glitzy gem; it smolders and provides broad flashes of color, not sharp pinpricks of fire. So you can wear this piece every day if you like. It certainly wouldn't be out of place around your neck at the office. Precious topaz is rare: this necklace is perfect for any formal occasion. This necklace is perfectly unisex by design so it would look exactly right on any gender. It's difficult to date this piece because it is in excellent condition and the design is unique. But orange and green was a popular color combination in the 1990s, which is when I suspect this pendant was fabricated. The topaz is without a scratch. This is a very rare and special piece for the man or woman who appreciates precious gemstones.
