Indulge in a gorgeous Belle Epoque - Victorian Bohemian Garnet Festoon Necklace in a heart and flower motif of great beauty. The early festoon necklace is set throughout with flat cut garnets which are indicative of the early age of the necklace. Collectors of fine garnet jewelry particularly covet the early flat cut pieces. The necklace features graduated flower medallions in the center. The three layer flowers have a rare heart shape layer that is absolutely wonderful. The settings in this layer are in the shapes of hearts with garnets set within. The center of the necklace is further adorned with gorgeous garnet set drops. The exquisite flat cut garnets create a dazzling necklace. The entire chain is set with quatrefoil garnet set sections. The necklace has a flower motif clasp set with garnets. The garnets are of absolutely magnificent blood red color. I cannot say enough about the color of these Bohemian Garnets. The garnets are set in Silver Gilt or "Garnet Gold" as was the custom of the Bohemian jewelers in the 19th Century. The necklace dates to the Victorian - Belle Epoque periods, circa 1860-1890.
The vivid blood red color of Garnets has symbolized love and devotion through the ages. Garnets also signify protection, friendship, and trust and garnets are also said to keep the wearer safe during travel.
