Victorian Gold and Enamel Tassel Pendant

A Carlo Giuliano enamel, peridot, moonstone, garnet and gold pendant with a cabochon-cut peridot, in the centre of a cluster of eight, cabochon-cut moonstones, with a blue, white, black and red enamelled fleur-de-lys surround, bordered by a circle of white spotted black enamel, with a briolette-cut garnet pendant, with a black, blue and white enamelled cap and a black and white enamelled pendant bail, mounted in gold, circa 1885. Carlo Giuliano (1831-1895) was a jeweller and goldsmith, born in Naples, Italy in 1831, it’s believed that Giuliano was trained in Alessandro Castellani’s workshop in Rome, and later sent to London to establish a branch of the Casa Castellani. After leaving Castellani’s employment in the early 1860’s, Giuliano opened his own workshop manufacturing jewellery at 13 Frith Street in Soho. A Victorian diamond set, Luckenbooth double witches' heart pendant, with rose cut diamonds set in the two hearts and bow, weighing an estimated total of 1.50ct, in grain and cut down settings, mounted in silver-upon-gold. Circa 1880. Luckenbooth brooches are traditional Scottish love tokens. They are usually a heart shaped brooch, often with a crown or coronet above one heart, or two intertwined hearts, with similar motifs to the Claddagh ring. European Heart-shaped brooches date back to late medieval period but this design probably did not appear in Scotland before the 17th century. It became very popular in the 19th century, featuring in the ranges of Scottish manufacturing jewellers, for the Highland outfitter and tourist trades. They are typically made of silver, although gold heart brooches were made for wealthy people and may be engraved or set with stones. The name comes from the Luckenbooths of Edinburgh. Luckenbooth is a Scots word for a lockable stall or workshop. Originating in the 15th century, they were the city's first permanent shops, situated on the Royal Mile near St. Giles Cathedral. Initially housing mainly silversmiths and goldsmiths. They were demolished in 1817. The brooches were often given as a betrothal or wedding gift. It might have been worn as a charm, by a nursing mother to help her milk flow or be pinned to a baby’s clothing. It was also known as a witch-brooch to protect children from evil. A stunning, fine and impressive antique Victorian 21.63 carat citrine, enamel and 18 karat yellow gold pendant; part of our diverse antique jewelry and estate jewelry collections. This stunning, fine and impressive antique pendant has been crafted in 18k yellow gold. The substantial frame displays a stunning feature claw set 21.63Ct oval faceted cut citrine. The yellow gold oval setting is embellished with white hot enamel decoration, paralleling the pierced decorated frame and forming interlacing stylised foliate designs. The decorative setting is further embellished with a rope twist decorated border encircling the feature stone, in addition to an undulating-textured border to the rim.
