A Victorian sapphire and diamond cluster necklace, the necklace consisting of thirty-two graduating sapphire and diamond clusters, each set with round faceted sapphire surrounded by old-cut diamonds, estimated total sapphire weight 17 carats, estimated total diamond weight 9 carats, all set on silver to yellow gold, the centre cluster with a gold ring to suspend a sapphire and diamond cluster pendant set with a round faceted sapphire estimated to weigh 1.3 carats surrounded by a border of old-cut diamonds to a further surround of larger old round-cut diamonds with diamond-set loop, estimated total diamond weight 4 carats, circa 1870, the necklace measuring approximately 35cm in length, the pendant measuring approximately 3cm in length, gross weight 44.4grams. This antique necklace is in excellent condition, slight abrasion to sapphires consistent with age and use. Unmarked tested as 18ct gold and silver to the necklace, and 14ct gold and silver to the brooch/pendant. This important Victorian necklace comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Made in around 1870, this necklace reflects the splendour of the mid-Victorian period. This necklace features thirty-two graduating sapphire and diamond clusters. The sapphires are a wonderful deep blue colour and the diamonds scintillate and sparkle beautifully. This necklace also features a central drop pendant with an impressive sapphire surrounded by an estimated 4 carats of romantic old-cut diamonds. This is an alluring and romantic piece.
