14K Art Nouveau Krementz Opera Glasses Lorgnette
About the Item
Art Nouveau Figural Woman with Daisies 14K yellow gold lorgnette with diamonds signed by Krementz & Co. It measures 4 3/4" long and 1 1/8" wide when closed or 4 1/2" when open. It weighs 23.38dwt.
This lorgnette from the Art Nouveau period c1900. This piece has a pair of folding glasses held within a repousse lorgnette encasement. Beautifully portraying the fine craftsmanship of Krementz, the front and the back of the lorgnette is wonderfully detailed in soft swirls and scrolls and has a 3-dimensional repousse appearance. The front adorns the angelic profile of a woman who has flowing locks of hair, a soft, detailed face and a garden of flowers surrounding her. The crown of her head is set with 3 old Mine Cut diamonds, and 2 additional diamonds are set in the center of 2 of the blooming flowers. The diamonds measure about 1.3mm, 1.4mm and 3-1.5mm. The back of the lorgnette carries a complimentary design with a garden of flowers and in the center are the hand engraved initials "KCG". The eye glasses fold in half and are hidden within the gold encasement, opening easily with a simple push of a button located on the side of the handle. At the end of the gold handle is a fairly large gold ring which is perfect for hanging from a chain or watch swivel hook. On the inside of the lorgnette is the Krementz hallmark and 14K.
