Antique Early Victorian French Prancing Hound Ring
$3,300

About
A French 18 Kt gold ring c. 1840, likely the only one ever made, depicts a greyhound or whippet in pale aqua with one leg gracefully raised in a prance. and head erect. The dog is bordered by an aqua frame that strengthens the design. Engraved marks on the face suggest a field and the movement of the hound.
The shank is a true beauty and original to the ring. It has crisply engraved curved shells at the shoulders and is marked 18 Kt with the French marks used during 1819 and 1838. The ring is somewhat understated but one look at the beautiful gold work speaks of its unique stature. Size is 9 1/2 which can fit a male or female. Weight 2.0 grams.
