Antique Georgian Magical Locket Ring
About the Item
An extraordinarily scarce ring with six harlequin panels of 18 Kt gold magical writing wrap your finger in historic mystery and center it with a locket that opens and that held who knows what back in the early 1800's. The writing changes with each turn of the ring. Each beautiful panel rises above the band in rectangles that are enameled in black and white with gold symbols. I searched every language, came up with similarities to Greek and many Arabic tongues but could not find an exact match to the writing on this ring. I turned to an expert who worked with the British museums for 40 years. He said the panels bore magical symbols. I pass this on as a thought from an expert.
The ring is such a wonder that collector's of rings, of historical and unqiue objects, of antique jewelry or of beautiful discoveries will appreciate it. The condition is amazing. Size 6 3/4 to 7.
Page 91 in Oman "British Rings 800 to 1914" shows a ring undoubtedly by the same maker of unique rings that seem to be made for individuals. It is a thrill to read through the various ring books and see the magnificent examples of rings made for important occasions and uses.
