About the Item

In the years around 1930, the Art Déco era favoured exquisite materials, geometric designs and white metals – and the ring at hand embodies this taste par excellence. A wonderful, natural sapphire in a vivid pink is the focal point of the design. The cushion cut brings out its colour perfectly, as does the use of pure platinum in luxurious white. White diamonds surround the precious stone, and a millegrain decor additionally structures the metal surface. Non-blue sapphires are called ‚fancy colours‘ and are, according to the exact hue and colour, very rare. Just as with blue sapphires, the simple rule is: the more beautiful the colour, the more precious the stone! The pink variant of the sapphire, also called rose sapphire, is especially sought-after and only found in Sri Lanka – or as it was called for so long, Ceylon. The rose pink sapphire set in this ring is wonderfully transparent and of beautiful vibrancy. Its distinctive shape and craftsmanship lets us date the ring to the years around 1930. We sourced it in Berlin, where it might have once been worn in the glamorous days of the Weimar Republic, with its vibrant nightlife of clubs and cabarets.
