About the Item

Vintage Tanzanite and Diamond Cocktail Ring in 14kt White Gold, Portugal, 1990s. This breathtaking jewel features a certified an intense slightly purplish blue 6.49-carat emerald-cut tanzanite claw-set to the centre, flanked to each side by a similarly-set trilliant-cut diamond. Tanzanite accompanied by EGL report 151014A/RVH stating that it weighs 6.49 carats. Diamonds approximately 1.60 carats in total, H/I color, SI1 clarity. Later Portuguese import mark for 14kt gold. Finger size: 52 (EU), but can be sized up or down. Gross weight: 8.9g. Gem-quality tanzanite comes from just one place on earth—the Merelani area in Tanzania. In 1967, a Masai tribesman stumbled upon a cluster of highly transparent, intense blue crystals weathering out of the earth in Merelani, an area of northern Tanzania in eastern Africa. He alerted a local fortune hunter named Manuel d’Souza, who quickly registered four mining claims. D’Souza hoped that he’d been shown a new sapphire deposit. Instead, the deposit contained one of the newest of the world’s gems. Interest in the blue gem was immediate. Tiffany & Co. stepped in to promote the new stone and gave it a name as exotic as its African origin — “tanzanite.” Consumers were intrigued, and the new gem has since then been a hit, with the finest examples with a deep blue color rivalling the rarest sapphires. This item is in good condition, with marks and scratches consistent with general age and wear. Antique, period and vintage pieces, both signed and unsigned, are being offered as worn.
