I’ve always been inspired by skulls, as artists have been for centuries. This type of jewelry is known by the Latin phrase “Memento mori” -- “remember you are mortal.” I interpret it as a call to live life to its fullest.
This one-of-kind piece took my highly skilled artisans months to create. The onyx was hand-carved in Germany in collaboration with my goldsmith in New York City, who provided to-the-millimeter measurements. I hid diamonds inside the shank, behind the skull, for the ultimate in covert luxury –- a treat intended only for the owner’s eyes, or those confidantes who are let in on her secret.
Our skuil styles are always very popular near Halloween, but this beautifully crafted high jewelry keepsake can be worn year-round.
