Ancient Greek 4th Century BC Zeus Coin 18K Gold Ring
About the Item
An authentic silver "hemidrachm" coin from the central Greek region of Thessaly 400-344 BC is set in a classic handmade double braid (twist-wire) setting atop a matte-finish shank in this Steven Battelle creation. Zeus is the god of the sky in ancient Greek mythology. As the chief Greek deity, Zeus is considered the ruler, protector, and father of all gods and humans. His symbols are the lighting bolt and the eagle. Ancient Thessaly was a wide area stretching from Mount Olympus in the north to the Spercheios Valley to the south. Thessaly consists of broad central plains surrounded by mountains. This ring is currently sized 7. It can be resized.

After a chance trip to SouthEast Asia in 1987, Steven Battelle became fascinated with the jewelry and iconology from the ancient cultures of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Asia. Eventually forming a partnership with a dedicated group of Balinese village goldsmiths using painstaking handmade techniques, they together create unique designs that incorporate those timeless and classic motifs. He incorporates primarily cabochon gemstones as well as ancient Greek and Roman coins, each piece capturing the feelings of a bygone age.
