1920s GIA Certified Untreated Water Jadeite Jade Ring in Platinum

About

If the 1920s had to be distilled (no pun intended but now I have to keep it) into one word I would say: sleek. This expertly hand-crafted platinum ring of an intricate foliate design with chiseled edge work holds within its leaves a glowing, extraordinarily translucent green jadeite jade gem, which is GIA certified as natural and untreated. Yet as ornate as the setting is, it's aerodynamically smooth and rises just 5.4 mm off the top of the finger so it won't catch on the pocket of your pants or snag on fabric. If you slide a pen behind the stone, you can see the shadow of the pen; that's how translucent this large (18.00 mm x 12.65 mm x 3.94 mm) double cabochon jade is. Hold it up to the window and it looks like water streaked with emerald-green. It makes you thirsty. But as soon as you slide it onto your finger, something borderline supernatural occurs and the green is suddenly evenly distributed, richly saturated with a mirror polish. The clear water is gone. But the result is a green of depth. It's bright and vivid during the day then at night beneath incandescent light, I would swear it was imperial jade. I have studied jade all my life and this stone shape-shifts like I have never seen before. This would make a brilliant and unique diamond-alternative engagement ring because it has serious WOW factor. Diamonds sparkle but that's all they do. This piece of jade is continuously changing and therefore endlessly entertaining. I wish it were signed because I would love to know the artist who created it. But it's certainly a one-of-a-kind piece, probably a commission. The platinum work is consistent with American jewelry from this period and is at the level of a Cartier or Tiffany & Co. of the period so no ordinary bench jeweler created this masterpiece. If the tiny carved line detailing were milgrain instead, I might suspect a French origin but I believe it's American. And I know for a fact that it is singularly spectacular. It is currently a size 6 and appears under the microscope to have been previously re-sized and could be again.
