About the Item

Chrysoberyl is a "little secret" gemstone. One of the most brilliant gems, it has a high degree of fire and almost rivals that of diamonds. Anxious to access the wealth of the new world, voyages by the Portuguese and Spanish hastened the discovery of these gemstones. Often mistakenly referred to as chrysolite, they are quite rare. Collectors have held on to these obscure colored stones, which range from pale yellow to puce soft green. Its use in jewelry has all but disappeared today, and it remains very rare. This magnificent chrysoberyl ring from the Georgian (ca1830) period is simply outstanding! Made of 12kt rose gold, this elaborate ring is quite substantial and has an unusual curved plaque design. The oval-shaped plaque is entirely encrusted with stunning chrysoberyl stones, which are hand set in a closed-back silver setting, forming an elaborate cluster. This unusual piece is a wonderful representation of how beautiful chrysoberyl stones can be, showcasing their luscious natural golden yellow color and sparkle. The overall carat weight for all of the stones combined is approximately 9.00ctw. The stones vary in size and shape, surrounding a larger oval stone in the center. The gold band is smooth, and the underside of the setting hugs the finger snugly when worn. An exceptional Georgian era statement piece, it is perfect for any chrysoberyl lover and would make an impressive addition to any collection! The ring has a finger size 7.5, but could possibly be resized slightly if necessary. The curved oval plaque measures approximately 1 1/2" tall and 7/8" wide.

Wear consistent with age and use. The overall condition of the ring is excellent. It is extremely well-preserved for a Georgian era piece, with no damage to the silver-topped gold setting, and all the stones intact. There is some minor surface wear to the setting.
