1970s Arthur King, Large South Sea Pearl, Diamond and Gold Cocktail Ring

About the Item

A fabulous cocktail ring featuring a baroque South Sea pearl, colored diamonds and 18 karat yellow and white gold ring, by Arthur King, c. 1970. The ring measures a size 6.75, and is 1.3" x 1.1" x .85". It is stamped King, 18k. This is one of his most important rings, built up in several layers of two color gold, almost as a bird's nest, in which lie an array of diamonds and finally a grand central baroque south sea pearl. Arthur King was a famed American, mid-century jeweler with a Madison Avenue showroom, known for being self-taught and an advocate of naturalistic and organic design using gold, paired with gemstones such as pearls, diamonds and often crystals in their raw, natural forms. King was also known for his use of the ancient jewelry technique of lost-wax casting. He owned boutiques in New York, Havana and Miami, among other cities and had a wide and distinguished clientele .
