About the Item

The finest solid black opal from Australia's legendary Lightning Ridge mine, aflame with vivid red and orange -the rarest colors of black opal- in a swirling sea of blues, greens and yellows is the mesmerizing centerpiece of this iconic men's opal ring. I searched for decades for a substantial, world-class black opal ring and I was simply unable to find a ring that met my standards -so I had this ring commissioned. I acquired the opal from one of the gemology world's leading authorities on opals, and the spinels came from the industry's leading purveyor of fine, untreated spinels from Burma. Private jeweler Boris Shmukler executed the final design. Crafted in no less than 37 grams —that's over 1 ¼ ounces— of rich, solid 18K yellow gold, this spectacular, one-of-a-kind signature ring is accented with a pair natural, un-heated bright red trillion-cut Burmese spinels. 18 brilliant white diamonds accent the opal as two arches North and South. The diamonds are F/G in color, VS in clarity, and weigh .50 carats. The opal itself measures 17.67mm x 15.08mm with a thickness of 5.13mm, and weighs 7.79 carats. The spinels are .50 and .45 carats. The metalwork is gorgeous with bold, modern planes and multiple textures, which give the ring a brilliant richness. This is quite simply the most extraordinary Australian black opal ring I have ever seen that was created specifically for a man. It is a size 9.5 and could be resized up to an 11 by grinding inside the shank. At an incredible 37 grams, this will still be a massive -and massively impressive- ring even with the removal of gold to make it larger. This ring ships with a pair of certificates from Stone Group Labs. One stating that the opal is an Australian black opal from Lightning Ridge, and the other stating that the spinel gems are natural and unheated stones from Burma (Myanmar).
