Certified Maw Sit Sit Ring of the Finest Quality

About the Item

I bought this 21mm x 14 mm maw sit sit cabochon about twenty years ago, which is long before most people had ever heard of maw sit sit. Today, of course, maw sit sit —a variety of jade— is among the most prized gems for collectors. The hyper-saturated green, together with the galaxy clusters of black make maw sit sit instantly recognizable and utterly unique. Nobody will mistake this for a star sapphire, that's for sure. I was originally planning to design my own setting for the stone until I found the world's ugliest black sapphire cabochon ring set into this hand-textured, oxidized band. I bought the sapphire ring, knocked out the sapphire and had my brilliantly talented goldsmith install the maw sit sit. It was a perfect fit. The black oxidized whirls on the shoulders of the circa 1975 14k gold mounting perfectly mirror the black squiggles of the mirror-finish maw sit sit gem. The irony is, I have never bought an "up-cycled" piece of jewelry such as a former brooch transformed into a ring because it bothers me. Though the English royal family has done this for years, tearing apart tiaras right and left to make rings, earrings and pendants. Princess Diana turned a necklace into a headband. The maw sit sit gem is spectacular quality and and in one small area is semi-transparent. In the backlit photograph, you can see light streaming through the stone near the top. A truly spectacular specimen of this incredibly rare gem from Burma. Lab certified to be natural and untreated. I have never seen maw sit sit this fine on the market. I sometimes see it in jewelry and the stones are always inferior to this one. This is a trophy ring for the serious collector. Currently a size 9, this ring could be resized by your local jeweler. 21mm x 14 mm cabochon
