Fine Nephrite Jade Ring in Silver Contemporary Unworn
About the Item
Not one but two artists created this ring. And it could be from the Art Nouveau era; the gorgeous symmetry of the carved silver clutching the summer-green jade cabochon, looking like something tucked beside a country stream. But this is not an antique; it's a contemporary piece; a collaboration between a jade carver who hand-shaped and polished the 100% natural and untreated nephrite jade and a silversmith who cast the artful setting just for the stone.
This is a beautifully hand-fabricated work of art. The proportions are perfect and the stone has excellent, lively color the character of jade carved in the 1870s, long before China's 1950's industrial revolution, which changed how jade was carved and polished forever. This is old-school lapidary work and nephrite loves old school; it makes the stone glow. I so rarely purchase new jewelry. Only when it has the soul of old jewelry.
