About

A coy diamond serpent coils around the large scale cabochon garnet of this ring like a love knot symbolizing endless loyalty and devotion. The diamonds of the serpent's body are off-round antique cut stones. The nose of the snake is set with a diamond shaped old cut gem. The oval garnet, a deep bordeaux tone, is set in a foiled closed back setting.
Serpents and love knots were important jewelry forms in the Georgian and Victorian years. When the head and tail or the beginning and end meet, there is no detectable beginning or end and therefore the form became interpreted as the symbol of infinity.
Through history and to this day jewelry changes form as it is passed on to family members. This serpent ring was likely a pendant at one time. Kept and cared for, an 18 kt hand made shank was added, changing it to a ring. All the stones and the setting are the original jewel. Current size is 7. This ring can be sized to fit.
