Ancient Roman cornelian intaglio of Apollo circa 200 AD ring. Set to centre with an orange cornelian intaglio of the Greco-Roman god Apollo, circa 200 AD, in a closed back Roman set setting featuring an intricately carved profile bust of Apollo, ridged border and closed backholing, leading to heavy tapering shoulders and flowing through to a solid D-shape shank. Marked 18 carat yellow gold, French, circa 1890. The god Apollo was worshiped by both the Ancient Greeks and the Ancient Romans. He was god of music, the sun, medicine, prophecy and archery.
