About the Item

An ancient gemstone, garnet has been revered by the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Medieval Crusaders, Hunza warriors, Kings and Queens. It has historically been associated with the heart, inner fire, love, friendship and vitality. Amulets using the stone have been discovered in Egyptian tombs, were used by the Romans to seal important documents and worn into battle by both Christian and Muslim warriors to protect against injury. King Solomon is said to have worn garnets into battle and Queen Victoria and Mary Queen of Scotts wore garnet jewelry, purportedly for protection. Carl Faberge designed jewels incorporating garnets for the Russian court, including the striking demantoid, almandine and carbuncle varieties. Prior to the nineteenth century, blood-red cabochon cut gemstones such as rubies, spinels and garnets were considered to be the same type of stone and were refered to as Carbuncles. A fascinating history, beautiful color and rich symbolism make this gemstone an excellent choice. Garnet signet rings are quite rare due to the desirability of this beautiful gemstone. This ring features a deep, rich ruby red octagonal garnet measuring 9mm by 7mm, approximately 3.5 TCW. The step cut is composed of rectangular facets showcasing the clarity, color and subtle geam of this superb garnet gemstone. This gem keeps its fires hidden until the right moment when the light strikes the facets, showing its spectacular true color- a strong ruby red, more intense than shown in the photographs.
