Greek Drachm Coin Ring, circa IV-III century BC

About the Item

Period: IV-III century BC Ring Size: 9 ½ Weight: 16,17 gr The ring is composed of a silver Greek coin, originating from Acarnania, a region of western Greece, characterised by an iconography strongly influenced by Hellenic and Corinthian myths: the obverse of the coin, in fact, bears the profile of the goddess Athena, a deity linked to wisdom and right war, who wears the Corinthian helmet; the reverse, however, is characterised by the image of Pegasus, winged horse, emblem of the city of Corinth and tamed by the goddess Athena herself, therefore, symbol of power and prosperity since it is said that it was able to make springs of water flow only with the stroke of its hoof. The coin is inserted inside a modern rotating frame in 18-karat yellow gold, which thus allows the view of both sides of the coin.
