About the Item

The Roman intaglio of the I-III century is made of carnelian and is inserted in an ancient gold frame with side braids. In the center, instead, is carved a gryllos, therefore, a double portrait that combines human and animal faces. In this instance, Silenus is shown as well as the mythological predecessor of Dionysius, frequently depicted with animal characteristics, from which traditionally the Satyrs and Nymphs derive. On the opposite side, facing to the right, there is the beak of an eagle, symbol of power and strength. Period:I-III century Ring size: 8 Weight: 12gr
