Victorian Carnelian Crest Gold Mounted Signet Ring

Buyer Protection Guaranteed

A signet ring can be represented with an intaglio, which is created by carving below the surface of a stone, or by a simple and smooth seal. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.

This gorgeous signet ring is a fantastic conversion piece from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Displayed at the center is a large antique carnelian plaque with an intaglio image carved into the center. The carnelian signet has been mounted in a striking 14kt yellow gold setting, which is crafted in a traditional Victorian inspired style. A detailed family crest forms the intaglio image, complete with two majestic lions adorning a large shield. The carnelian stone is bezel set and displays a wonderful rich orange color, which compliments the gold setting beautifully. Completing the design is a smooth split shank, which is stamped "14K" beside a small maker's mark. Both substantial and striking, this remarkable ring would look equally fabulous worn by a woman or a man!

The ring has a finger size 6.75, but could easily be resized up or down. The carnelian centerpiece measures 1" tall, 3/4" wide, and rests approximately 3/8" above the finger when worn.

Excellent. The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no damage to the setting. There is a small chip on the stone's surface at the side of the intaglio image, but it does not detract from the beauty of the piece..
