Vintage French 18 Kt Gold Rampant Lion Signet Ring

About the Item
A striking medium sized signet ring, in 18 Kt gold, was made in France and engraved with a rampant lion in a garter motif. The message around the ring border is "En Dieu Et Moi Esperance" which translates to In God is my hope. The rampant lion signifies courage, power, leadership, bravery and protection. It is the royal standard for the King or Queen of Scots and their personal banner. Google reports that thought is that King Richard 1, of England, the lion heart first introduced the rampant lion in the 12th century. So fascinating that one ring brings together the history of England, Scotland and France. The Royal Order of the Garter, as shown by the garter motif is the highest order of chivalry awarded to very few in England. It was introduced by King Edward 111 as the most Noble Order of the Garter.The ring is fully hallmarked and dated. This ring is c. 1989. It is crisp and clean and stunning on everyone. The size is 7 1/2 or the British P. Weight 11.4 grams. The ring face is 1/2 inch high and 3/8 inch wide. It has perfect proportion.
