1.9 Carat Pear-Shaped Zambian Emerald in Slim Vintage 18K Gold Solitaire Ring

About the Item

This ring started out in life as a modest engagement ring with a center basket for a round diamond, probably around half a carat. Eytan Brandes converted the ring to a solitaire for a large pear-shaped stone because he wanted something simple and slender to showcase the kickass emerald he bought from our longtime gem dealer. By cutting out the round center basket and replacing it with a newly cast 14 karat gold pear-shaped basket, Eytan got the look he wanted: the simplicity of the ring is the perfect delivery system for such a dominant stone. The 1.92 carat emerald is from Zambia and measures 12mm tall, 7.5mm wide and 3.2mm deep. Other than customary oil treatment, this stone has not been enhanced. The rest of the ring is the original 18 karat yellow and white gold shank. The shoulders are white gold to better show off the three tiny pavé-set diamonds flanking each side of the emerald. The band is 1.7mm wide and 1mm thick. The full cut diamonds are around 1.5mm each, for a total diamond weight of just 0.06 carats. Note that one of the diamonds (next to the emerald) has two small chips in the table. Replacing tiny diamonds in tiny spaces in old rings like this is risky, so we opted to leave the stone as-is. The diamonds are H-I color and SI1-2 clarity. The inside of the band is stamped "18K" plus an intriguing but unknown maker's mark. A third stamp, "0.61" refers to the original diamond weight (either total or just the center stone). This ring is currently a size 5.75. We will resize at no charge for full-price buyers up to a size 8.5. Otherwise, resizing is negotiable. This ring weighs 2.2 grams.
