Silver Platter, Jugendstil, M.H. Wilkens & Söhne, Bremen, Germany, 1899

About

Silver platter, Jugendstil, made by M.H. Wilkens & Söhne. Oval asymmetric shape combined with Jugendstil floral decoration. This unique and excellently made finest oblong silver serving platter of gorgeous appearance. The platter's middle area has smooth surface, and the sides are decorated with finest ornaments: Flower's and leaves' scrolls ( chasing work ) and soldered rim. Antique tableware and cutlery from Wilkens' production are still in demand today in the antique trade; the largest collection possesses the Focke-Museum in Bremen. The goldsmith Martin Heinrich Wilkens (1782-1869) had settled in 1810 with a workshop in the old town of Bremen. In the economically difficult early years, he initially produced and repaired gold and silver goods, until after the arrival of his eldest sons, the skilled mechanic Diedrich and the capable engraver Carl, the company developed from about 1830 to the mint, the soon-pressed semi-finished goods and whole silverware over Bremen could settle out. At the same time began the production of medals and between 1840 and 1861 he coined a total of 1.7 million coins on behalf of the State of Bremen. And the heritage goes on; M.H. Wilkens & Söhne is still producing high standard silver and objects. That makes this unique made example special. Knowing that the number ( "Auftragnummer" ) entered in this platter 130125 tells that this item is made in 1899/1900. So a signed unique Jugendstil platter of well known origin, 120 years old, in original very good condition for the price of a new made silver platter by Wilkens. An absolute beauty Size, 50 x 39 x 2 cm. Weight, 1520 gram Silver 0,800 For any additional information, please feel free to ask, we'll be honored to assist
