LIFETIME SERVICE COMMITMENT What a great open faced watch this is by the legendary house of Illinois Watch Company. The Kiln Fired Enamel Dial is Flawless and the blued steel hands are original. A quick glance at the movement and you immediately see how magnificent this watch is. The beautifully Damascened plates reveal the commitment to excellence of the American house. The case is entirely hand engraved and shows almost no wear on it. We seldom see Illinois watch in such fine condition. The Illinois Watch Company, founded in 1870 in Springfield, Illinois, was once a prominent American watchmaker. They were known for their high-quality timepieces, particularly their railroad watches, which were known for their accuracy and reliability. The company played a significant role in the development of standard time across the United States railroads. At its peak, the Illinois Watch Company employed around 1,200 people and had offices in major cities like Chicago and New York. However, the company faced financial difficulties in the later years and was eventually acquired by the Hamilton Watch Company in 1927. Although Illinois Watch continued to produce movements until 1948, the company never regained its former glory.
