Lepine is renowned for many inventions in science and watchmaking. In addition he was Abraham-Louis Breguet's teacher. Lepine had a long and personal friendship with Voltaire and many historical French and European dignitaries. George Washington ordered a watch similar to this one after he saw the one purchased by Thomas Jefferson for James Madison.
This uncommonly large pocket watch boasts an exceptional mint condition enamel dial. The dial fixed with one screw to the movement. The classical ruby cylinder escapement is all original and impressively the watch keeps excellent time. One can even imagine Washington wearing the watch during the war of independence.
