Today's offering showcases this classic and beautifully restored c. 1968 Omega Seamaster Cosmic with emerald green and black dial.
Vintage Omega watches have long been appreciated for their timeless proportions, excellent movements, and restrained design. While this Seamaster Cosmic shares all of those qualities, what sets it apart is its beautiful dial.
Refinished in a rich emerald green with a dramatic sunburst effect, it transforms continuously depending upon the angle of the light. In one moment the dial shifts from deep forest green to a brilliant metallic emerald, creating a dynamic appearance. Green dials have become one of the hottest trends in modern watchmaking.
Its distinctive wide applied baton markers feature white centers that create depth and contrast against the radiant dial.
Its smooth, sculpted Cosmic case is an excellent companion to the dial. Its flowing lines and absence of sharp edges give the watch a refined, almost modern silhouette that pairs especially well with the contemporary color. The overall design feels cohesive, as though the watch could have been imagined this way from the beginning.
It measures slightly over 35mm in diameter without the crown, in between the sizes of a Rolex Date and a Datejust.
Powering the watch is Omega's top-tier caliber 552 movement with twenty-four jewels (seven more than in many Seamaster versions from the period). The 552 was one of the last superior 500's series movements used before Omega began trying to reduce their costs. Arguably the finest mass-produced automatic movement from era, despite the appreciation it receives it too remains not yet fully appreciated.
It has all of its original Omega down to the hands and crown and has just finished a true expertly done restoration.
Its monococque - or one-piece - case, which achieved high water resistance ratings by not having a separate case back, presents as mint with only light signs of previous polishing.
Despite what the photos seem to suggest all of the original markings on the back are still intact. On the wrist it presents as gorgeous mint.
Its original Omega dial has been meticulously custom refinished in emerald green with black periphery - the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye.
As part of the restoration, the movement has been freshly overhauled by a Master Watchmaker. We have also timed it on a machine that simulates it being worn on the wrist. It is keeping very accurate time.
For the finishing touch, a new darker green aftermarket calfskin leather strap has been installed making it ready for immediate enjoyment. If you would like a slightly more restrained look, a black strap would look fabulous on it as well.
