Throughout history of the firm starting from the early 1900s up to the present example commissioned in the 1980s, Vacheron has always been known compared to other brands for injecting an extra high end sense of fashion into their timepieces which makes a Vacheron Constantin a Vacheron. In doing so, the firm found inspiration by creating wristwatches not only with extremely intricate gem setting patterns such as the Diamond set honey comb patterns that are designed along the bracelet in between each articulated bracelet link but also with the firms creative approach to design bracelet watches in especially unique case design concepts. Probably the most iconic example the firm designs timepieces in especially is the diamond shaped or hexagon case design of which the present example is designed with. During the 1980s, commercial air travel had just become an everyday norm from the 1970s and high fashion style from haute couture boutiques in Paris spread throughout the world from Hong Kong to Dubai and London to New York ultimately establishing a new marketplace demand for a timepiece which could be as versatile in fashion and function as the Jetsetter’s capability to travel from one place to another. During this timeframe the main emphasis was placed on having a high fashion chic timepiece which could be worn day or night, to an evening out or casually with friends and as a result special order designs which appeared to be more of high end bracelets then the traditional timepieces became the emerging new fashion. To meet that demand, examples such as the present Vacheron were commissioned which are beautifully thought out concepts that take into account fashion and function combined with user ware and comfortability. The present example which is designed with approximately 132 brilliant round cut diamonds are all carefully gem set into a honey comb or diamond pattern to further match the diamond case design concept upon which the time is revealed on. In addition, the bracelet is very carefully designed to wear similar to that of a high fashion cuff more so than a standard wristwatch as it allows for seamless design around the wrist, appearing as if the bracelet has no opening or closing clasps given the special attention to detail for the design to include a double deployant locking mechanism… a very special feature that only the highest fashion designs typically take into account.Also interesting to note on this example, the bracelet is extremely well made and thought as as each link is carefully articulated so that it remains flexible on the wrist rather than rigid giving it a more sophisticated style as well as additional comfort so it can be worn with ease and is not rigid not the wrist or overly heavy as some gold watches may be allowing for optimal comfort regardless of the activity engaged in. Finally in addition to the the extremely unique diamond shaped or hexagon case design and carefully well throughout bracelet concept, and the expert gem setting skills carefully placed each honey comb diamond patterns along the bracelet exactly in between each articulated lug and further accented the timepiece with a sophisticated perfect condition ivory white diamond set dial to add further elements of elegance to this very versatile and high fashion style. Iconic Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin was among the first brands to embrace the Geneva Seal and is the oldest watch producer in the world that is still in operation. Vintage Vacheron Constantin watches continue to charm and captivate collectors near and far, and the manufacturer’s Maltese cross logo, adopted in 1877, is instantly recognizable as an emblem of luxurious design and enduring quality.

Vacheron Constantin was founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron, the son of a master weaver in Geneva who instilled in his children his belief that working with one’s hands is a noble endeavor. Jean-Marc took his father’s convictions to heart and opened his watchmaking workshop at the age of 24. The watchmaker made custom watches for royalty and flourished as an innovator in its field.

Vacheron Constantin functioned as a family business for several decades after Jean-Marc’s death. His grandson, Jacques-Barthélemy, took over the business in 1810 and promptly realized that he would need support in order to expand the company’s reach as well as oversee production. He searched for a partner who was versed in international business and who had a fondness for watches — and he found it in successful businessman François Constantin, who became his associate in 1819.

Constantin was born to a merchant in Geneva. From a young age, he traveled extensively and honed his business skills, fast becoming a venerable merchant himself. Shortly after joining Vacheron, Constantin coined the company's motto, "Do better if possible, and that is always possible." These words continue to guide the brand to this day.

Since becoming known as Vacheron & Constantin in 1819 — and later, Vacheron Constantin — the company has enjoyed international acclaim for everything from jewelry watches to provocative shaped designs, and its alluring timepieces are highly sought after by antique and vintage watch enthusiasts.

Widely loved models designed by Vacheron Constantin include the sporty Overseas and the Patrimony, while a number of Vacheron Constantin watches hold world records. A vintage pocket watch previously owned by King Fuad I of Egypt is one of the most expensive watches ever sold at auction. Another watch — the Reference 57260 pocket watch — has 57 complications and took eight years to build. In 2022 Vacheron Constantin exhibited a selection of its rarely seen mid-century watches in its New York City flagship store. Since the 1990s, the company has been a subsidiary of the Swiss Richemont Group.
