The watch is dependable and easy to service. This is the only example we have ever seen of this model. In the 1930's, we became Gruen agents in Los Angeles, California. Gruen was a great company to work with because they had a large collection, great styling, they were innovative and offered great service to their customers. It is sad that they could not, like so many other American Watch Companies, withstand the Swiss and Japanese marketing. GRUEN HISTORY Founded in 1894 by Dietrich Gruen. The company had their American base in Cincinnati, Ohio, and it produced a wide variety of watches, including pocket watches, wristwatches, and chronographs. Gruen watches were known for their high quality and stylish designs, and they were popular with consumers for many years. In the 1920s, Gruen was one of the largest watch manufacturers in the United States. The company employed over 1,500 people and produced over 1 million watches per year. Gruen watches were sold all over the world, and they were worn by several celebrities, including President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Elvis Presley. Gruen continued to produce popular watches throughout the 1930s and 1940s. The company also produced watches for the US military during World War II. After the war, Gruen faced increasing competition from foreign watchmakers, and the company's sales began to decline. Gruen filed for bankruptcy in 1958, and the company ceased production in 1960. It was a sad demise for such a legendary house that produced extraordinary watches as well as ordinary ones.
