About the Item

Nivada Gretchen Depthmaster 1000, stainless steel cushion shaped diver’s model with heavy and rugged lugs, wide, raised elapsed time bezel, and with dramatic glossy black original dial with patina’d art deco inspired luminous indexes and hands and red sweep second hand. The art deco font has also been referred to as “Pac Man” dial, as the 6 and 9 resemble the beloved Pacman character. Cushion shaped case resembles the design of the popular Panerai dive watches hence the nickname, “baby Panerai.” Featuring heavy screw back case with raised company logo, and large crown for setting and winding. Screwed “pins” for a very secure fitting of the strap. Powered by caliber ETA 2461 self winding movement with sweep seconds. This sought after model was marketed under the Croton brand in the U.S. and Nivada Gretchen in Europe. Recently serviced, original dial and lume; hands relumed to closely match dial. Original dome crystal shows some mild crazing. A large and robust, truly great looking model. Shown with a sporty padded fabric strap for a great sporty look. A rarely seen model, with an amazing appearance on the wrist. A favorite of the store owner! NOTE: an atypical but certainly amusing print advertisement for this model contains the copy: “Wear this watch to dive deeply, scuba safely, sing sweetly (Gurgle Gurgle), chart channels, forage for fish, plunge for pearls, kiss girls and never worry.
