These minute jewels were designed as beautiful bracelets so that the wearer could discretely check the time. They required tiny, precise mechanisms and were revolutionary for their time. This is a "vault find" watch, it has been locked up for nearly 50 years, which means it needs a service. We will give it a factory quality service by our finest watchmaker as part of the purchase price before it is shipped out to you. This will delay shipping for a few days of course.
LIFETIME SERVICE COMMITMENT
This is a rare watch by the legendary house of Waltham, from Waltham Massachusetts. It is all original including the factory crown. The case is entirely hand made and deeply hand engraved as well. We have only seen a few examples of this model in the last 50 years. It is fitted with what appears to be an original early strap and original period buckle as well. The strap is to fragile to wear every day however, so we have also fitted it with an appropriate hand made lizard strap and the original buckle.
Waltham Watch Company History
The Waltham Watch Company was an American watch manufacturing house founded in 1850 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. It was the first American company to mass-produce watches using interchangeable parts. The company's watches were known for their quality and affordability, and they quickly became popular with consumers. Waltham played a major role in the development of the American watch industry as well as establishing the concept of “mass produced” products.
By the way, Henry Ford was a watchmaker, and he was inspired to build cars the same way Waltham Watches were produced, for the masses with interchangeable parts.
Waltham’s success helped to make the United States a major player in the global watch market as well as promote the idea of “industrialization.” Before the Waltham Watch Company, watches were generally produced by hand, in “cottage” industries. They were owned by the wealthier class or the “working class” that needed to know the time. The company's affordable watches made them accessible to a wider range of people and helped to change the way people thought about time. Prior to this, people used their local Church bells to direct them in their daily lives.
The Company continued to grow and prosper throughout the 19th century. During the American Civil War, they supplied watches to the military, and of course they grew because of this association.
In 1885, they moved their headquarters to Waltham, Massachusetts, and changed their name to the American Waltham Watch Company.
Waltham was a major exhibitor at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The company's exhibit at the exposition was housed in a large pavilion that was designed to resemble a factory. The pavilion was filled with watches of all shapes and sizes, as well as machinery used in the manufacturing process. The exhibit was a major success, and it helped to raise the profile of Waltham watches around the world.
Amongst the visitors at the exhibition was a contingent from Switzerland. When they realized what Waltham was doing, they quickly understood that their methods were outdated and soon enough they would be a country unable to compete. They also went to the Waltham factory for a visit after the exhibition. It is said that they purchased a few of Waltham’s higher grade movements. The director of the factory said he would have them “adjusted” before they left, but they said it was not necessary. When they arrived back in Switzerland, they checked them and were shocked at the level of quality and accuracy. This prompted them to buy some of the equipment that Waltham was using so they could start building better watches that were less expensive and more accurate.
Some of that machinery ended up in the small town of Schaffhausen and became The International Watch Company. They are still in business today making exceptional watches.
The military, for any nation, is a powerful source of revenue for industrial contracts. So, any industry would prosper during war and Waltham continued to be a supplier to the military for over 100 years. Through WW 1...

Just around the corner from the global stock market crash, this watch came to be. What a great and original Waltham Watch this is. We seldom see watches from this era in such fine condition. Imagine navigating your modern day with a nearly 100 year old device (I wear a watch from 1919 every day and it always gets me there on time). This piece is fitted with a solid gold case by America's finest case maker, Depollier. They made custom cases for all the finest American watch companies, including those renowned Swiss houses imported to America. The watch is also fitted with its original and flawless Kiln Fired Enamel Dial and it still has its original Blued Steel Luminous Hands as well. Lastly, it appears to have its original crown as well. The watch keeps dependable time and can be worn all the time as well. You will likely never see another truly vintage American Watch in finer condition than this one.
Through the American civil war and two World Wars, and beyond, Waltham's legacy and spirit lives on in this wonderful vintage watch. It is truly a representation of the idea of American Exceptionalism. The wonderfully crafted design is timeless. Even after 100 years or more, this watch can dependably be worn, used and counted on to get you there on time, every time. It is versatile enough to be worn for all types of occasions and various clothes. Wear it with a suit or even for more casual occasions but, certainly, feel confident that you are wearing a piece of history.

This is one of the finest example of a "trench" watch we have ever had. The watch is entirely hand made. The case cover is done in classic Breguet Engine Turning, with a "Half Hunter" cover and Kiln Fired Blue Enamel with Roman Numerals. The Roman Numerals are balanced out against the Breguet Arabic Numeral Dial. The movement is hand made by Longines and very high grade. We have just serviced this fine watch and it keeps dependable time and can be worn all the time and counted on to get you there on time as well.
Longines was founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz, a Swiss watchmaker. He was also the brother of renowned biologist Louis Agassiz. Agassiz started the company with two partners, lawyers Henri Raiguel and Florian Morel. The company's original name was Raiguel Jeune & Cie.
In 1846, Raigeul and Morel retired from the watch industry, leaving Agassiz as sole company head. Several years later, Agassiz brought in his bright, enterprising nephew, trained economist Ernest Francillon, into the business. Francillon was the mastermind behind several impressive innovations that would distinguish the company from its competitors.
In 1880, Francillon trademarked the Longines name and its winged hourglass logo. The winged hourglass is a symbol of precision and timekeeping, and it has become one of the most recognizable logos in the watch industry.
In 1912, Longines became the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games. The company has held this position ever since, and it has been involved in every Olympic Games since then. Longines has also been the official timekeeper of many other major sporting events, including the World Championships in Athletics, the Formula One World Championship, and the America's Cup.
In 1931, Longines invented the Lindbergh Hour Angle...

1920"s Art Deco Gruen Quadron 15 Jewel, Restored, 14KY Gold Filled
By Gruen
Located in Raleigh, NC
My shop was recently selected to supply vintage American watches for a premier movie starring some major actors and a world famous director. They were looking for authentic watches that would represent the time period from 1915-1926. I was selected because of my attention to detail and originality. It is a true story of events that took place during the 1920’s. This would of been a perfect watch style for the film.
Gruen "Quadron Model 63" Men's Art Deco design wristwatch in 14K yellow gold fill, circa 1930.
This Quadron model has a large stepped case with a recessed crown. It was priced at $52.50 in 1930. It is in excellent condition showing only a few tiny specks of brassing to the bezel corners and a little to the tips of the lugs. The case back is excellent and unengaged, it does have a tiny flea bite. Dial is very good. Case measures 38mm long and 24mm wide. The watch is powered by its correct 15-jewel Gruen grade 157 Quadron manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
In years from the 1920s through the 1940s, the Gruen Watch Company of USA & Switzerland was one of the leaders in wristwatch design and quality, even working together with Rolex.
In 1925, Gruen introduced the men's Quadron. Similar in concept to the women's Cartouche models, these were rectangular watches containing very high-quality 15-j or 17-j tonneau-shaped movements. A larger movement is generally more reliable and accurate, and is generally more rugged, than a smaller one of the same quality, so the Gruen Cartouche and Quadron, with their case-filling, purpose-built movements performed much better than the small, round movements used by most of their competitors at the time. Round movements were still used in the less expensive rectangular Gruen wristwatches...

By Elgin
Located in Raleigh, NC
Thank you for dropping by. I have a sublime offering that is Art Deco through and through. Elgin, one of the prolific early American wrist watch manufacturers. The played a significant role during the early wristwatch era. This is just an example.
This is an incredible survivor from two generations ago. This 1928, one year before “The Great Depression” hung over the US like a dark angry cloud. This could be labeled a Streamline Moderne offering in 14 karat white gold filled. The case is in remarkable condition for being almost 100 years young.
Elgin “Model 621” men’s Streamline Moderne design wristwatch in 14K white gold fill, circa 1928.
Let me share with you what makes this such a coveted treasure to own, if you are on my sight, you like vintage watches. With bias I know I offer some of the best in the market today, don’t take my word, read my reviews.
Back to the Elgin, sorry I got lost for a moment. This dial is the crown jewel of this offering. It is called an Incuse Exploding dial...

WW1 ……..Trench Watch. Marvin 15 Jewels, Rare Full Hermetic
By Marvin
Located in Raleigh, NC
My shop was recently selected to supply vintage American watches for a premier movie starring some major actors and a world famous director. They were looking for authentic watches that would represent the time period from 1915-1926. It is a true story of events that took place during the 1920’s.
I have been an avid vintage watch collector for years. My soft spot is 1900-1935 American watches.
I pride myself in offering the best quality and reasonable prices. Remember, "Price is what you pay, value is what you get".
What a rare watch to offer. This is a most extraordinary watch to find. I have a solid gold one for sale by Cyma, a Sterling Silver from Eberhard as well.
History of Marvin:
Marvin is a classic watch-making brand steeped in the tradition of fine Swiss horology. It was founded over 150 years ago, in 1850 in Berne, Switzerland by the brothers Marc and Emmanuel Didisheim.
The Marvin philosophy from 1850 to the today has always been to provide quality and fine finishing for reasonable prices. The founders embraced a non-elitist vision of watchmaking. To them, artful design, unquestionable quality, and obsession with detail were not incompatible with affordability. A philosophy that is mirrored in our offering of this vintage Marvin watch.
For over 150 years, it has remained true to its founding principles of passion, daringness, strong ethics and humor. The Marvin brand is known for its tradition of beautiful and reliable time pieces, rich in style and history.
Marvin quickly established itself as a brand that provided good design and quality finishing for reasonable money. Through the middle of the 20th century Marvin expanded and made a name for itself through motorsports sponsorship and celebrity “endorsements”. Both Marilyn Monroe and Che Guevara both wore Marvins, so you are in good company.
The current modern Marvin lineup is geared towards affordable luxury, therefore whether you choose a vintage or modern Marvin, the philosophy remains the same.
One cannot avoid in the passion and quest of learning and understanding the beginning of the wristwatch to bypass the story of the hermetic timepieces. “Sealed” pieces were first patented by Francois Borgel in 1891, and the semi hermetic were patented by Charles Rothen, an employee of Francois Borgel’s daughter who took over after her father died. The “fully hermetic” was originally believed to have been first patented by Jean Finger in 1921, but later it was found that it was preceded by Gruen some four years earlier (applied 1918/granted 1919). The final Rolex Oyster patent was originally patented by Perregaux and Perret on October 30, 1925, and bought by Hans Wilsdorf for the launch of the now famous Rolex Oyster in 1926.
My first fully hermetic timepiece and probably the most “exotic” watch in my collection even today is my Waltham Dive Watch
This watch has been designed with swing lugs to help it fit the curvature of the writs, another sophisticated design element of this watch
Although this achieved the desired waterproof effect, it had an extra step in winding and setting the watch, the front bezel had to be unscrewed everyday so that the watch could be wound. However, despite the design drawback, a number of manufacturers, produced watches using this case design, not many have survived
It appears that Wilsdorf must have liked the design and bought the patent, because a Rolex watch called the “Hermetic” using this case design was produced from 1924, and similar designs from other manufacturers disappeared. And lest we forget, the Gruen identical patent (more or less), applied for in 1918, was granted 1919.
In January 1921 Jean Finger of Longeau, Berne, Switzerland, was granted Swiss patent number 89276 for a “Montre à remontoire avec boitier protecteur”—literally a watch with a protective box. The watch was placed inside a larger case with a screw-down bezel that formed a hermetic seal totally protecting the watch. Once the bezel was unscrewed, the smaller watchcase came out on a hinge to allow the hands to be set and the movement wound. Rolex called the “Hermetic” using this case design was produced from 1924, and similar designs from other manufacturers disappeared. The dial is simply signed “Eberhard” and is MINT! The black script is nice and dark and the blued steel hands are immaculate and original, the also have been relumed.
I had this watch serviced by a European watch maker with 40 years of service, it runs fabulous as of this listing.
This watch is a very exotic piece that has significant historical relevance and thus very collectible The movement is signed Marvin and is a 15-jewel hand wound configuration with adjusted to 2 positions.
The case is .925 silver and is marked inside the case back FB, this is none other than Francis Borgel, one of the most venerable “Hermetic Trench Watch Case manufacturers of their day. They were considered to pinnacle of Hermetic Watch...
