Also a near perfect condition outer minute track and additional complication of an auxiliary dial or subsidiary dial complication found at the six where it is further marked “swiss” at the 6 position.. a further indication of not only the immaculate condition this timepiece has been preserved in over time, but also its authentic as an original dial un-refinished through time. Regarding details about the case: The present timepiece is comprised of a beautiful massive three body solid, polished and brushed case and further enhanced with bold crab claw lug case design which were considered both stylistic and bold during this early 1920s era. The movement, similar to the dial and the case, is also in perfect condition and has been recently serviced as it boasts a Caliber 10 1/2 movement made from’’’ gilt brass, possessing 12 jewels in a straight-line lever escapement and further accompanied with a cut bi-metallic balance and self-compensating Breguet balance- spring which is correct for this period and also works perfectly today and has been recently serviced. Additional Catalog Essay The present watch is extremely rare on a variety of levels from the case design to the dial and from the vintage it was produced to the maker whom created it. To discuss and understand how rare it is we break it down first by the shape of the case design. The Cushion Shaped case designs are probably one of the most rare case designs of all since this shape was produced for such a short period when compared to the rectangular precursor and the Calatrava or round case design today. From the 1900s to the 1930s Watch manufacturers were developing case designs for the functional use at war, as well as, for style as the case designs moved past the 1930s. The first wristwatch case designs were typically rectangular and nicknamed trench watches later on as the industry became more focused on waterproofing the case design so its was more durable This was one of the inventions Rolex has been accredited so famous for generally speaking in the beginning of the 20th century horology. From their, rectangular case designs were replaced with the cushion case design as the present example exhibits, which is possibly one of the most limited case design shapes ever produced as watch manufacturers only designed in this shape for about a 10 years or less period from the 1920s to early 1930s, afterwards the Calatrava was designed which is the round case design the world so famously associated with when one envisions a wristwatch. Next we move into the the dial itself… the beautiful gilt yellow enamel dial, designed with sector dial numerals is one of the most desirable dial alignments many collectors of vintage timepieces seek out, bringing the present timepiece it into another realm of rarity that even the most seasoned collectors can appreciate.… Sector dials are known for having only the numerals located at the 12, 3, 6, & 9.. Additionally, Given its condition and the obvious stylistic elements which make it a quintessential period piece the present timepiece makes for a perfect addition to even the most seasoned collectors as these Post WW2 cushion case designs are so limited in production by Vacheron Constantin in general and so few exist today.
