This piece is rather a curiosity, it has a fully stamped machine to the top which I can't find out through extensive research what it actually does, Walter Everette Molins made packaging, knife sharpening and tobacco machines amongst others, this looks to be a cobblers machine so someone who makes shoes based on the accessories but who knows, if anyone does, please educate me! We have cleaned waxed and polished it, it will have the odd patina mark, mostly it’s in very fine order throughout. Walter Everett was the second of four sons born to Jose Salustiano and Ella Georgine Molins (nee Gibb), the eldest and youngest having died in infancy. In 1912 the Molins Machine Company was formed. Having only limited funds, the Molins brothers, Walter Everett and Harold Bernardo went into partnership with the United Machine Company of Lychburg, Virginia, the controlling shares being held by that company. This effectively left the Molins brothers at being little more than Uniteds agent with United having access to anything that Molins developed. 1913. Walter, being the engineer of the two brothers, went to work at United's Dresden factory in Germany. There he stayed for eleven months until the outbreak of WW-I. As an American citizen, he was able to leave Germany via a business trip to Russia and eventually return to London. About this period, Walter Molins had begun to develop a simple packing machine while his brother looked after the business finances. By wars end Molins were selling quite a number of packing machines and the company grew as a result. 1919. Molins had expanded and moved into larger premises, some disused tram sheds in Evelyn Street, Deptford. This site was to be their principle factory for the next 60 years until it closed in the mid 1980's. At that period, Molins also had a presence at 59 Holborn Viaduct, the offices of the United Machine Company who they were still tied to.
