Called by Pablo Picasso "the most wonderful pendant lamp of the world," this sculptural and organic piece was designed by renowned architect J.A. Coderch in 1954. The iconic 'Disa' has since become a much sought after icon of Spanish midcentury design. This newly authorized re-editioned by Tunds embraces all the technical, functional, material and aesthetic requirements laid down by the master architect, including those which could not be resolved in his time due to technical limitations. It is now loving fabricated in choice of natural Oregon pinewood (FSC) veneer specially treated to gain flexibility, or satin white methacrylate, and coupled with machined and anodized aluminum block clamping rings made in Germany.
Price is per item. Available to order in unlimited quantities in choice of two sizes as well as two finishes. Also available to order as a table lamp, please see our separate listings. This listing is for the large 'Disa' pendant in wood. Please note that only one representative example of each item is shown in the images. Finish varies from item to item due to the handmade nature of their fabrication.

José Antonio Coderch (1913-1984) is considered one of the most valued architects in Postwar Spain. Often described as the architect of modernity, his works are still seen as vivid examples of contemporary architecture and his legacy includes hundreds of listed buildings all over Spain. Coderch gained significant recognition throughout his career, winning the architecture FAD awards in 1960 and 1972. The Mazzega house was founded in the 40s as an artisan glass factory, evolving to become a benchmark in design and avant-garde.
About Carlo Nason
Italian designer Carlo Nason was born into a family of expert glassmakers in 1935 in Murano, Venice. His father, Vincenzo Nason, ran the renowned Nason Moretti glass company and opened a second glass company under the name Vincenzo Nason & C in 1941. From an early age, the young Nason was trained in the art of glassblowing, learning both the properties of the material and the craft techniques used in the molding and decoration of the glass. Nason's first designed objects date from 1959 and are included in a collection of mold-blown vases produced by V Nason & C. Today, they are in the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York.
Driven by his passion for design, especially clean geometric shapes, Nason decided in the 1960s to distance himself from his family's business, which specialized primarily in highly traditional ornate decorative objects. Nason redirected his focus to glass lighting design in a modernist language.
Nason intended to produce his first individual designs in small batches himself, but soon his spirit of experimentation and innovation caught the eye of Murano glass lighting manufacturer A.V. Mazzega, and the company invited Nason to collaborate on new collections.
