Marvelous vintage John C. Virden Medieval Gothic or Spanish Revival Style Hanging Light Fixture comprised of a 5-arm pentagon shaped black iron and wood fixture, a black iron chain, hammered iron details, candle posts, and a round brass canopy. Just hanging here EXPLODING with mid-century EXCELLENCE!!!! This is a fabulous vintage John C. Virden hanging light fixture comprised of a beautiful 5 arm black wood star or pentagon shaped fixture with lovely, scrolled iron details under the arms. Each arm bares hammered iron straps across the top and down the side and host a black iron bobeche on the outer edge holding white candle covers and a scrolled detail that hangs below the arm. A pentagon shaped ferrule floats in the center above the candles with five attached black chains draping from each side of the pentagon down to a hook attachment aside the bobeche. The entire fixture hangs from a gorgeous black chain ascending from a round brass canopy. It is CRAZY gorgeous!!! And it’s hardwired so you could use dimming or flickering lightbulbs and add some wonderful ambiance to whatever room you choose to install. This chandelier light fixture is going to be fabulous over your Spanish Revival style dining table but it would also blend in beautifully with Gothic, Medieval, or Renaissance style décor. Or use it to make a bold statement in an entry way, over an island in your kitchen, or over the coffee table in your living room. We can’t say enough about this phenomenal light fixture. It is designed in a style after Russel Wright for Conant Ball or Bissman. My mother (who is a retired interior designer and has been identifying vintage pieces since before I was born… and I am vintage myself!!) believes the actual style is a copy after Russel Wright but the construction leads her to believe it’s Bissman. It is not marked, but no matter, it is INCREDIBLE!! The design world calls these transition pieces… of the era when pieces transitioned between the Art Deco period and the Mid-Century Modern period, during the early portion of the 20th century. Glorious Late 19th to Early 20th Century Ecclesiastical Religious Art Sacred Heart of Jesus plaster statue sculpture upon a gilded wood base. Specifically, his hands only had the wire structure so new hand-molded & crafted hands were created by our professional craftsmen and the wood on the base was bad so it has been given a new gilded wood base. He has many chips in the plaster that have been repaired and the whole statue has been shellacked. Heaven knows we could all use a little more Jesus in our lives!! Well, your prayers have just been answered!!! This is an absolutely magnificent Ecclesiastical Religious Art plaster statue of The Sacred Heart of Jesus. He is comprised of hand sculpted and hand painted plaster and he stands about 43 inches tall upon a square flat edge gilded wood base. He has handsome, realistic, intricately hand painted facial features, and his glorious dark brown shoulder length hair drapes gracefully upon his shoulders. He wears a lovely, flowing robe featuring the Sacred Heart symbol upon his chest and his beautiful bare feet are exposed at the base of his robe. His enticing hands are open and reaching out as if to welcome you into his arms. The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of the most widely practiced Catholic Faith devotions wherein the heart of Jesus Christ is viewed as a symbol of “God’s boundless and passionate love for mankind.” The Sacred Heart is depicted as a flaming heart shining from behind with divine light, pierced by the lance with a bleeding wound, and encircled by the crown of thorns. And Christian faith depicts it more as a flaming heart, while the wounds and crown of thorns allude to the manner of Christ’s passion and the flames a furnace of ardent love. You can depict it how you choose! We believe that his original home was most likely a wonderful old church where he was admired for many years. Due to his materials, he should only be exhibited indoors…. Which is exactly where we all need the Lord to be anyway… on the inside!!! He will be absolutely divine in your entry way or heavenly in a sunroom surrounded by indoor foliage or faux plants & trees. He has an all-over “perfectly imperfect” aged patina, a few “character enhancing” chips that you would expect given his vintage age, and an angelic aura...

Marvelous antique Gothic Architectural Ecclesiastic church spire or steeple with pivoting shrine & distressed finish. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, there are pieces of wood missing throughout the structure and it has an all-over distressed patinated finish. A lower back support was added and a slatted back piece for stability by our professional craftsmen. It has also been reglued and re nailed for stability. What have we HERE??? Is it a Spire? YES! Is it a Steeple? YES! Well, isn’t it kind of a Tower? Also, YES!!! And it is MAGNIFICENT!!! We have a GORGEOUS mid to late 19th Century Gothic Architectural Ecclesiastic church spire or steeple with a pivoting center shrine bearing a “perfectly imperfect” distressed finish. The use of spires, steeples, and towers on Christian church buildings became common around the eighth century! Spires were (and still are) most commonly used in Gothic architecture… particularly in cathedrals and churches symbolizing heavenly aspirations as well as offering a visual spectacle of extreme height exhibiting tall steeples symbolically pointed to heaven. It serves to remind all who worship Him that God should be held above all else as He sits at the highest point. Isn’t that interesting?? Honestly, we think this whole spectacle is nothing short of incredible!! It has four extra tall hand carved, sculpted spires and two lower ones in front just below the beautifully sculpted cross in the center. It is covered in hand carved Gothic details and features a pivoting center shrine which was most likely used to hold a chalice or the communion offering during church service. It is comprised of patinated wood and bears an all-over distressed finish and throughout the entire frame pieces of wood are missing here and there… it is absolutely beautiful in its rustic-ness! It already had the dark wood box behind the rotating shrine so we added a lighter wood support below and a slatted back piece and front stretcher to give the structure stability. When we obtained it we were told a fun story from a man that claimed it came from an old church in New Orleans… oooooooh!!! Not sure if it’s factual but it’s a cool story! We think it would make an awesome PET PALACE!! That’s right!!! The open bottom would be a great space to place a dog bed or a litter pan for you cat lovers and then set your furry friends’ food & water bowls above. Talk about the ultimate Cat Castle or Royal Residence for Rover!!!! OR… if you are into gaming and love yourself some Minecraft… talk about bringing your Sanctum build to life!! It would be an AWESOME shrine to display or store your gaming components and collectibles!! It’s a wonderful way to exhibit a lovely sculpture...

Fabulous vintage Hollywood Regency Chinoiserie Chinese Chippendale style Thomasville black low profile accent occasional chairs, set of 4. You know, 1971 was a VERY good year… There were 3 partial solar eclipses AND there were TWO total lunar eclipses in the SAME year!!… The FIRST EVER Starbucks opened at the historic Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington… A movie ticket only cost $1.50… Oh ya… AND it’s the year I was BORN!! (Hmmmmm, those eclipses may explain a few things in my life!) LOL…Anyway, how privileged am I to share a birthday with these MARVELOUS occasional chairs by Thomasville!!! This is a set of four incredible Thomasville low profile occasional chairs in the style of James Mont covered in a deep black faux ebony finish bearing a naturally distressed all-over patina on their frames. They have wide, square seats wearing lovely black vinyl or faux leather fabric that is nice enough to use for a while but eventually you may want to reupholster. Just think of the limitless fabric possibilities!!! They feature beautifully carved Asian detailed backs and straight square legs with a wide and sturdy stance. The front legs have a slightly turned in foot, but no rounded hoof look so not quite the Ming style, but we might say a hint or bit of flair. They are definitely bursting with styles of Hollywood Regency, Chinoiserie, and Chinese Chippendale magnificence and are sure to be a favorite new addition to your home! They are too low for use at a standard dining table; however, if you have a low profile Asian Chabudai (Japanese short-legged table,) or a low-profile game table, these would be a perfect fit!! Otherwise, you could certainly use them as extra seating in your living or family room or split them up and use two in the corner of your bedroom and two in the sitting room or study across from your fireplace. They are very versatile, composed of solid frames, and they bear an unmatchable and timeless Thomasville reputation!! They are EXACTLY what the designer ordered! The original Thomasville furniture company was founded in 1904. At the time, it was called the Thomasville chair company since the company focused on producing chairs exclusively. Over the next few decades, the catalog expanded to include additional furniture pieces. During this time, the original company went through several owners; despite this, the company still experienced financial success even through economic hardship of the 1930s. Vintage pieces from the Thomasville Furniture company run the gamut from chairs to dining room furniture and many different types of furniture in between. The earliest pieces from the company, when it was still known as the Thomasville Chair Company, are considered the most rare and valuable. Marvelous vintage Asian plaques of cast bronze figures mounted on black painted plywood backgrounds signed Gansu, set of 4. We have four marvelous cast bronze Asian figures articulating extraordinary expressions of what we believe to be visual arts, culinary arts, musical arts, and performance arts. Each cast bronze figure is mounted upon a rectangular freshly painted black plywood base plaque, each bearing differing patina or signs appropriate with age such as nicks or dings that we feel only enhance the beauty of their presence. As a matter of fact, this particular set of four was among my mother’s personal collection for many years, so it holds a special place in my heart for sure!! In our research we discovered that Gansu is a province in north-central China. Its city Jiayuguan is best known for the magnificent Great Wall. Awesome!! Each cast bronze figure exudes their own form of art, celebrating life and all of the beauty that comes with it. One holds a serving tray with a couple of glasses and a carafe… in my world there is probably a delicious red wine inside that carafe just waiting to pass through my lips!! Whatever it may be, it must be something lovely, delicious, and a bit mysterious! Another figure embraces an incredible sculpture that drapes from the tip of her shoulder, under her arm, and secretly swoops behind her. Behold… a vision of loveliness left to your imagination … a puzzling and optically pleasing piece of artistry. While another figure proudly plays a flute, twinkling their fingers across the keys… filling the air with joyful notes & sounds that tickle your ears… But let’s not leave out the last figure dancing blissfully to the beat… skipping and shuffling her bare feet in the sand. And did you notice everyone is dressed to the T’s!! Gorgeous cloaks, gowns, Hanfu, headdresses, obis, wraps, and jewels!! What a PARTY...

Joyful vintage MCM (Mid-Century Modern) Art Deco figural jester or harlequin table lamps in the style of Marbro, a pair. Comprised of molded plaster, blue, green, and gold hand painted details, antiqued gold painted stems, brass plated steel finials, and green & blue harlequin shades, Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, the finish was a bit chipped on the base of the female & her mask was also chipped around the edges. Both places have been repaired. There are also hairline cracks visible when viewing closely but they are only on surface and not structural and inherent to the pieces. They have been given new 3 way light sockets and felt bases. It is in the style of the model SS33 Bauhaus cantilever chair designed in the 1930’s for Thonet by famed designer Anton Lorenz. The chair design was later adapted to create this wonderful barstool! It is comprised of a chrome tube cantilever frame, black block stabilizers on the base, and white vinyl seats and back rests. A simple, stunning, and oh-so-comfortable design! Shortly after he married, Michael opened his one-man cabinetmaking shop creating furniture and cabinetry in the traditional manner by carving the needed parts and then joining them together. In 1830 he began experimenting with bending wood into curved shapes and thus began a successful furniture company that has remained continually in operation for nearly 200 years. Thonet’s early work was very Biedermeier in style and not made for the common man. Gradually his designs became more Art Nouveau. In 1951 his chairs for the Crystal Palace at the London World’s Fair won a prize medal and by the late 1950s he began to make his first “consumer” chair. In 1875, a year before Michael’s death, Thonet’s five factories made 620,000 chairs. Then in 1876 after his death the company became Gebruder Thonet. But all was not roses. In 1869 the Thonet patents lapsed and by 1893 there were 52 bentwood companies in Europe. However, Thonet persevered. They branched out. They merged. They added designs by Le Corbusier and Breuer and alternative materials such as tubular chrome in place of bentwood to their offerings. Business boomed and waned through the years and there was even a Thonet revival, so to speak, beginning in the 1940s on into the mid-20th century. Till today, in the 21st century, Thonet is still a furniture company to be reckoned with almost 200 years later. Anton Lorenz was known as the man behind the Bauhaus’ “machined aesthetic.” He was born in Budapest in 1891, became a teacher, and later married an opera singer, and entered a lock manufacturing business. They relocated to Berlin in the early 1920’s. in Berlin he met architects Marcel Breuer and Kalman Lengyel who were both associated with Bauhaus in Dessau. Breuer became the first designer to construct furniture out of tubular steel, joined forces with Lengyel and found a manufacturing company and Anton Lorenz became manager. He was business savvy and obtained patents to establish a network of rights for new tubular steel furniture and would go on to do the same for Desta and Thonet who dominated the industry. In 1939 Lorenz emigrated to the United States where he established the design technology for the well-known recliner. Gorgeous Mid-20th Century Mid Century Modern gold spun fiberglass string swag or pendant hanging light fixture or lamp. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, three chairs had cracks in the seat bottom leather that have been supported by leather patches. These cracks most likely occurred because the previous owner did not have the tension support rods properly tightened while using. LOL… This is an iconic set of 8 vintage Italian Bauhaus beautiful black leather and chrome tube frame cantilever chairs attributed to Mart Stam. Epoch designer Mart Stam introduced the first cantilever chair in 1926 but ours are the Late 20th Century version of this design. They are ergonomically pleasing and comprised of gorgeous chrome tube frames, deep black leather seats, backs, and armrests adding an additional pinch of luxurious comfort. So, you can hardly talk about Bauhaus style OR iconic chair designs without including historic, exemplary names such as Mart Stam, Marcel Bruer, and Mies Van der Rohe. I mean, it’s hard… if not impossible to pick a favorite… BUT there’s a fun yet controversial story behind one of the most pivotal designs of all time… the cantilever chair… and WHO of these three icons actually designed it first!! Does it all come down to a design created for a pregnant Mrs. Stam? You decide… The story goes, as Mart Stam and Mies Van der Rohe were preparing for an exhibition in Stuttgart, Mart Stam presents his design idea to Mies Van der Rohe by grabbing a wedding invitation of Wille Baumeister off the desk, flipping it over, and sketching the drawing of a chair idea he has created for his then pregnant wife. He had created the design without the back legs, but it was not yet flexible. Mies Van der Rohe already had an extremely similar design style with his S 533 (MR 10) armchair AND one year later, Marcel Bruer presented his S 32 cantilever style chair! And… the battle BEGINS!! But let’s just take a breath and clear the air… Gentlemen…Relax… There is plenty of room in this Bauhaus furniture world for ALL of your phenomenal chair designs!! But… OH, THE CONTRAVERSY!!! Well, at the end of the day Mart Stam was awarded the authorship of the cantilever chair by the German Court. And, while we love them ALL, you have to admit… there is something unmatchable with this genre of chair design. It’s no wonder they are so sought after even today.
